  • I don’t know how the hell it works either.

I imagine since it’s an electric vehicle, the motors either have electricity or they don’t…so when they don’t, if there’s no clutch mechanism disengaging the wheel, it would probably “engine-brake” naturally. Engine-braking, as I understand it, is basically how regenerative braking works anyway.

Combine that with a CVT and it can make a pretty smooth deceleration.

Combine that with distance sensors in the front and it’ll keep you from accidentally slamming into something.

  • I don’t think you can see it in the video, but it is literally the first sentence of the article…

A man who was believed to be part of a peacekeeping team for the “No Kings” protest in Salt Lake City shot at a person who was brandishing a rifle at demonstrators.

“Brandish” is a specific word. It implies aggression.

brandish 1 of 2 verb bran·dish ˈbran-dish  brandished; brandishing; brandishes transitive verb 1: to shake or wave (something, such as a weapon) “menacingly brandished a knife at them”; 2: to exhibit in an ostentatious or aggressive manner “brandishing her intellect

If I were to brandish a rifle at you, you would have every right to shoot me first and ask questions later. Especially given the circumstance and current events.

  • The cops shouldn’t have been protecting the protestors. The cops should have been protecting everybody.

But we know to expect failures of the police. And we know we have a “god-given” right to defend ourselves.

And we know that police have no actual requirement to protect the public from dangerous situations anyway. That is settled case law.

And we know that calling the police when somebody is already marching towards you with an AR-15 pointed at your crowd is a waste of precious time.

The cops did nothing wrong. They also did nothing, but that’s besides the point.

  • You don’t raise a gun and point it at people unless you intend to shoot it at them.

Should the peacekeeper have waited till he started spraying bullets until he fired on an obvious threat?

Maybe he should’ve waited until a few people got shot first. Or waited until there was at least a confirmed kill?

Should he have called 911 and said “officer there is a man here drawing an AR-15 on the crowd please hurry before he shoots somebody” and wait 15 minutes for the cop to arrive?

Like…I don’t know what you expect here. If there’s one time when it’s acceptable to shoot first, it’s when somebody already has a gun pointing at you.

This whole thing is a shining example of “good guy with a gun”. It’s the second-best possible outcome, only being better if Ah Soo weren’t struck in the crossfire. .

  • Sounds like the cops are in the right here…

Gamboa was the idiot who pulled his rifle on a crowd of peaceful protestors.

The protestors, being smart, had peacekeepers who were defensively carrying.

One of the peacekeepers shot at Gamboa, and ended up hitting Ah Loo, who was (apparently) an innocent bystander.

Gamboa broke the cardinal rule of carrying a gun: don’t point it at anything that you aren’t planning to kill. Defensive peacekeeper took the appropriate action in disarming a very valid threat (especially considering the actions that MAGAts had been taking on protestors lately). Cops arrested Gamboa.

I’ve got sympathy for Ah Loo (and the peacekeeper that shot him)…but that death is on Gamboa. That’s felony homicide right there. FAFO, Gamboa.

  • Yeah that’s the other thing. It’s in Bristol!

That’s practically Massachusetts! And not even like, Boston…it’s like…Swansea. Suburban, nearly rural.

To get from Providence, you practically have to go into Massachusetts first.

To get from Warwick (where PVD airport is) or points south, you have to take the Pell bridge, which is a toll road, in addition to a bridge. Iirc, the only toll road in RI for 2-axle vehicles…so not a lot of people even really have EZPass. And you gotta cross the Jamestown Bridge first.

These are all things most Rhode Islanders loathe doing.

And yet despite that, it gets 80% of what Trump claimed his draw was. Pathetic.

Oof. On the one hand, I’ve found games that I wouldn’t have bought that I really enjoyed. Like Avowed. I loved every second of it. Hi-fi Rush was like this for me too. I’ve barely heard any talk of both of these games.

Plus tons of Indy titles I’d never heard of. Can’t tell you how much time I spent in Power Wash Simulator

On the other hand…I hate buying games. It’s a big commitment when you don’t know if you’re going to like it. Most the time I end up not even playing half the game. So I end up going full PatientGamer, and wait for a good sale. (Still want to try Luigi’s Mansion some day…)

And, I go months without playing my Xbox as it is. Right now I’m finding myself getting back into WoW (I haven’t really played since wotlk …it’s a whole different game now). Why should I keep game pass?

GamePass is an awesome plan for people like me – casual gamers who don’t get a lot of replay value out of most games. Honestly I’d love to see similar or competing services.
