Boeing plane down again. I’m looking for sources on how many of which manufacturer has gone down recently, will update when i find it.
Edit
It’s such a new model that i can’t find it in the database on airsafe
According to IATA interactive safety report 2024, there hasn’t been a fatal accident that involved a 787-8 Dreamliner up until 2024-12-31. Can’t find any collected data for 2025.
I’ve seen a lot of talk of casualties on the ground too. Absolute tragedy.
Yeah, apparently the plane crashed into the dining hall for a medical school, so a ton of potential first responders were likely among the injured. It’s kind of hard to imagine how this could have turned out any worse.
There is a lot of insane gore about this on the internet, people taking pictures of severed heads and stuff, don’t look it up for your sanity. The plane fell on a med school dormitory, killed a whole bunch of students in addition to those on board.
Some people say that the RAT (an emergency device to power the plane in case of double engine failure) can be heard after takeoff, while the engines were silent. There is a lot of people claiming the flaps were not correctly extended, but there is no way to know that properly from the published videos, and the takeoff flap config of this plane is not that discernible from a distance from the flaps up config anyway.
The plane was 13 years old, so it’s not likely that it’s Boeing to blame for this.
It’s too early to say anything and to speculate.
I like your well reasoned and controlled response, its a light in darkness
Having said that, I do feel that we’re at a point where we can start with assuming that Boeing did something bad because Boeing always does something bad. Yes, that is a bad way to think and I hate that I do, but here we are
Oh, yeah, totally. Fuck Boeing. That this is likely not Boeing’s fault does not mean that they are not rotten nevertheless.
Very sad. I think that’s the first 787 crash?
I think so. I haven’t found any previous fatal accidents from IATA.
Just had a look at a forum for pilots in Sweden. Seems like they think it was human error, due to the short runway and how the plane seemed to have stalled in the videos. Speculations to be sure, so I’m gonna wait and see what the investigation says.
My brother is a pilot (not commercial, but was working on his hours for a long time before deciding he didn’t want to) and we were talking about this through text. He told me this:
It’s the first crash of a 787 in something like 14 years and with over 1200 examples flying worldwide. I’ve watched the video several times and much doesn’t add up with this crash. Speculation as to a cause is futile at this point but the cause will be determined relatively quickly as the tail section with the recorders is intact. Reading a bit online, it would appear to be some sort of an electrical failure, likely due to an engine(s) issue which is just astronomically rare (to lose both engines). The RAT appears to be deployed, again, indicating an electrical issue. Additionally, the landing gear are tilted back which would appear to indicate a hydraulics failure. All of this leads one to believe a dual engine failure…again, astronomically rare.
I’m a private pilot and i can say too early to tell. Plane exceeded the critical angle of attack it looked like in the video, but tail sections of the plane being mostly intact could mean they flew it to the ground like you’re supposed to and didn’t stall it. It wasn’t gaining altitude though and so thrust issues seem possible.
One survivor, he was in 11A.
Seen a few videos from on the ground, horrifying stuff : (.
RIP to all those involved.
Is it a Boeing?
Is it a Boeing?
Oooofff course its a Boeing, and of course its a dream liner.
That court case that would cripple Boeing, and was cancelled by Trump, might need to be spun up again
I’m never getting in a Boeing again
Thank God. Airbus is still safe to fly on
