Yeah we’re kinda doing well. Retaining 50k mau from the initial user burst is really good and Lemmy was technologically really bad at the time. Its a lot more developed today. I think next time reddit fucks uo we spike to over 100k users and steadily grow from there.

Fizz@lemmy.nzto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Besides mod logs, is there a better way for the Fediverse to keep track of malicious actors, such as Kiwi farms members, Nazi apologists, and genocide deniers?English3·16 hours agoI think its good because some users really want that feature. But i think on by default for every user could encourages users to run multiple burner style accounts which is a huge problem for moderation and doesnt solve the problem users try to solve from tagging.
Example you might have me tagged as a Nazi because you dont want to interact or be subtly influenced by my less blatant comments. However if I knew everyone did this then I’d run one account for the blatant stuff and one account for blending in.
Its why I’m kind of against platform banning users instead of having individual blocks. Its better to bad actors known and operating in the open than to have them hiding and avoiding moderation.

Well if it were that easy they should have started developing that a bit sooner and we wouldnt be in this mess.

If you have an idea you can suggest it as a feature on github. Outside of that you can only really block and report if their behaviour breaks the rules.
At the moment its up to the community at the moment to weed out those kinds of people.
Fizz@lemmy.nzto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Now that PewDiePie is on his Linux/engineering arc, could he help boost the Fediverse?English61·1 day agoHe isnt a very social guy so he probably doesnt care to promote social media especially one with so much extremist content. His linux video is more than enough to funnel some more people into fedi adjacent communities and if they want to I’m sure they’ll find their way here.
Even if he did, look at the reactions in these threads. People dont want to grow this place.
The page looks slick. Foss projects have the best web design its always either 10/10 or raw html. No in between.
They make a lot of really bold claims that I dont think are nessesary or helpful. Eg 15 year old devices will run happily and securely. Linux has no viruses.

Thank god Samsung is so in touch with what features consumers want added to their $1000 devices.
Those prices must be very enticing for devs. Hopefully we get competition in the space and devs can get a larger % of their game sales.
Also these platforms are pissing me off when they say the games cross platform but they just mean steam and epic. Thats not cross platform you oafs!

It would be cool if people could subscribe to an auto updating blocklist group. So if one or x amount of person blocks it applies to the entire group.
