Now that’s funny. Lol.
Now that’s funny. Lol.
Just because you can’t read doesn’t mean I am full of shit. I clearly said the curfew was heavy handed, which means not necessary. But it’s clear you think I am arguing for the cerfew. Nuances seem to be lost on you.
My argument was that they couldn’t just let it happen and ignore it.
Saying I am full of shit without actually pointing out anything I said about portland was wrong is exactly how trump operates. No facts, just slander. So congratulations, you have followed him so much you now act like him.
You best use in our cause is to follow in the footsteps of St. Luigi.
Wow, I’ve seen goalposts move before, but those moved so far they aren’t even in the same state.
I think you know what I meant. They had people spraying graffiti on non federal building and such. You also had the wamo cars being lit on fire. If left unchecked, those things escalate pretty fast. For reference, I live in the portland metro area. We have experience with this.
I’m okay with it. You can’t have roving mobs destroying your city every night. I think the cerfew itself is a bit heavy handed, but my understanding is that it covers a very small area. And it doesn’t affect the daytime peacful protests, so it isn’t squashing the protesting really, just trying to cut down on the damage.
While you are not arong that “he” doesn’t care, his administration does. They have released several high profile people that they were ordered to release for starters. They are starting to lose more and more court cases. Each loss gives military personnel more ground to declare an order unlawful. The same is true of republicans who don’t like him but feel powerless to oppose him.
I don’t think the peaceful protesters (which are by far the majority) care about them building defenses.
They could have just said that due to extremely decreasing popularity of ICE, the insurance costs have become prohibitive. Thats like 2 zingers in one. They could also toss in something about respecting the wishes of thier constituency for extra flavor.
See my comment to the other response about the not in my backyard crowd.
The more local the governing body, the more they have to pacify the not in my backyard people. The federal government can generally ignore those people and just make things that need to happen, happen.
So you missed my point. Many of those things that the feds pay for just wouldn’t happen if the state was paying. Politics is tricky like that.
I think you underestimate how much the “save” from denying claims the way they do. Thier net income is about $2.25 million per hour. I don’t know where the $3000/hour came from, but that is a drop in the ocean to them
The sad thing is that I am sure they will pass the cost onto the customers.
Apparently they did start approving more right after it. And now they are getting sued by blackrock, a majority shareholder, for hurting profits. As much as I dislike these CEOs, the system breeds them to be this way. And there will always be more to take thier place. But holding them accountable will also mean that doing the right thing becomes good for the shareholders.
I think it maybe time to change the dynamic of the USA. Maybe instead of 2 levels, maybe three. Federal, regional, and state. Where the federal hands over some powers to the regional government. I am not sure how that could happen, but it might be a good direction.
Well you probably don’t realize the things the federal government does give cali. Interstate highways are one. Coast guard. Bridges. And clearly funding to the universities. Now the balance is lopsided, in that cali gives more back. But that doesn’t mean cali would have given you those same things.
That said… determining if CA would be better with our without the feds is a complicated question. For one, they would probably need to fund thier own military, as they would be a ripe target given thier economic prosperity.
I guess the real question is about what the intent of the hate crime law in texas. Is it intended to punish people who’s only motive was hate of a protected class? Is it to enhance punishment of people where the hate is a partial motive? Could also just be to enhance punishment of people who hate protected classes even if that wasn’t part of the motive.
In the end it is probably easier to prosecute without it. And the guy is old enough he won’t get out anyway.
Hm. Checking my glasses I think there is something on the top too. I can see distance ever so slightly clearer looking out the top. If I remember right, I have a minus .25 in one eye. Always been told it didn’t need correction, but maybe it is in this pair. I should go get some off the shelf progressive readers and try those.
Yeah, my wife got me something that claimed to auto focus. Was just a pair of progressive readers.
That’s the spirit. Go do some good.
