Having easy access to guns is just objectively stupid.
No you don’t get it, since we cannot eliminate all dangerous things that could injure or kill people the only option we have is to not even attempt to control any dangerous things that are currently killing and injuring people. /s

aesthelete@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Florida judge rules AI chatbots not protected by First Amendment1·5 days agoSure and I don’t disagree there, just wanted to clarify that it’s not some immutable property of corporations or governments that governments cannot destroy corporations. Corporations are a legal fiction that a properly empowered government could revoke the charter of where appropriate. I believe I’ve heard it called the “corporate death penalty” and if I were king I’d be doing it to a number of repeat offenders immediately.
There are of course some human consequences for taking drastic action against corporations. But in many cases – surely more than the 0% of the time the government does it – the good outweighs the bad.

Edit: rural broadband is like the new affordable housing, high speed rail, or better public transit… It’s something that’s completely possible to do but they’ll always find some excuse to do nothing so they can campaign on it again next cycle
