We’ve had the same thing with politicians in Canada. It’s gone from “he’s an asshole” to “but he’s OUR asshole”.
I think congratulation politicians - whether you live them or not - when they do good things is well warranted. Keep in mind that while many couldn’t give a shit about you or I, they DO like ego-stroking and attention so positive reinforcement can actually work well.
Honestly I’d rather less of him being f’ed by the bear and more demonstrating how he’s fucking the country while calling it patriotism
Realistically though, if you’re not a f***ing moron and don’t have a criminal record, it’s not hard to get your PAL and the ability to have long-guns. It’s a day-course.
The RPAL is a bit more work and more restrictions in terms of transport etc, but it’s not necessary for most people that would just want to go hunting or target shooting (except target shoots with handguns).
IMO - as somebody who has a PAL - the rules around responsible ownership in Canada are pretty reasonable. Some of the recent stuff over particular firearms is dumb especially with the lacklustre enforcement against trafficking etc, but stuff around safe storage and use 100% makes sense to me whereas the “public carry” stuff in the US is kinda horrifying to me.
Honestly other than a fingerprint lock, I’ve found the apps suck compared to just a browser on a PC anyhow. Half the apps could just be webpages, and a bunch of those are just wrappers to a web rendering layer anyhow

AA is also EXTREMELY vpn-unfriendly. It fails to work period of I’ve got a wireguard VPN without app restrictions, even if there are only a handful of routes using the tunnel. Then, if I restrict the VPN to just certain apps, it’ll still give me the big ol’ middle finger running those apps via AA, which means I can’t stream from my home media host over VPN while using AA because Papa Google apps no.
Have you considered Mint? I tried PopOS but found the support wasn’t great. Mint is also based on Ubuntu but adds extra functionality and skips some of the dumb stuff Canonical is pushing (i.e. snaps for everything).
As far as games: VM’s are not really a good bet unless maybe you’ve got multiple video chips and are willing to invest time in getting GPU passthrough working (and then you really haven’t escaped Microsoft so why not just dual-boot).
I’ve found that games on Linux (particularly Steam games) with Proton are pretty damn good and only getting better over time. Valve has put a lot of work into that with the Steam Deck (which also runs on Linux) and the non-valve versions also sometimes cover stuff that can’t (like certain copy protections).
