I’ve talked to so many rich white Republicans who thought the other Hispanics would be deported, not the Hispanics that they know. Leopards and faces, you know.

And if you have connections to Latino organizations in your area, let them know! There are great groups rising up and getting ICE information out to vulnerable people en masse.
They deleted it! That was absolutely meant for posterity
Maybe this is misguided, but in some ways I was looking forward to seeing whatever actions had been planned in DC that day. I guess we’ll see what happens. Regardless, Asheville is coming out strong for a No Kings rally.
I think they’ve got this on lock? But if you were to recommend something, what would you tell them? Most immigrants use WhatsApp anyway, which is secure, but i do have a friend who’s closely allied with this group.
What is liquid ass? I feel like this is a typo but I love it.
The local Hispanic community started the message chain for the local Hispanic community, and they definitely have the system worked out amazingly: I get messages (in Spanish) about the presence of ICE in specific locations, as well as messages quashing false rumors about ICE. I know people in this organization are even following ICE vehicles around and messaging covertly… I mean, it’s just super impressive. Every undocumented immigrant I have asked (I know a lot) is already connected to this message group. I don’t know that an app would improve it in any way?
Though, the group seems to be using some sort of program because when I signed up I got a few automated messages asking for some of my information, and I know that multiple people are messaging through this number with notifications.
Regardless, go team! They are doing so much good.
ICE is sneaking around the back roads in my city, and a local network sends out warning messages to local immigrants. I’m looking into what I can do as a citizen to make it more difficult for ICE, but I’m impressed by the messaging network that has been set up.
I don’t know, we had a huge protest in my city a few months ago (made the front page of the NYT), but every subsequent attempt to organize has been disappointingly small. I hope this Saturday creates momentum but I worry people will check off the “resistance” box and go back home. We’ll see what happens! 🤞 Actual concrete events happening in LA may enliven people.
I didn’t say 20 years, I said 20 devices.
Yes but the process of obtaining the information is significantly more difficult. We can, you know, reuse the same 20 translation devices for years, and all kids have a laptop… I feel like you’re focused on the wrong thing.
Maybe, but are there other things we can focus on? For example, as an ESL teacher, why do my newcomers only get a word to word paper dictionary on end of grade exams? I’m pretty sure the state of North Carolina just hates children? There’s literally no reason for this. Give them a digital dictionary.
And what is a girder?? “Made from girders” is no help at all, as I think of a girder as an architectural support.
Edit: looks like there’s some ginger involved, which helps the ginger commercial make slightly more sense.
Edit 2: well, they really do mean steel/iron girders. There ya go. Still no help at all.
Edit 3: people claim it tastes like orange the color but not orange the fruit.
Me too, but i still don’t know what it is? Definitely involves caffeine.
